Management Development Program

The Management Development Program (MDP) invites you to explore the role leaders play in creating successful and high performing workplaces.

Part of Investing in Public Service (IPS) series of programs for developing leaders, the Management Development Program introduces various theories on leadership, change, organizational culture, teamwork, strategic thinking, as well as specific Yukon Government organizational knowledge.

You will discuss and practice applying organizational theories to your role as a manager and leader in Yukon Government.

You will also be invited, through various self-assessment tools and reflection, to explore who you are as a leader and your strengths and development needs. You are encouraged to use this learning opportunity to increase self-awareness and make informed choices about a learning plan and development path for yourself.

The Management Development Program will be of interest to

  • those government employees in middle to senior management who provide the leadership and management within an organization to ensure that departmental goals and objectives are in line with corporate goals and objectives,
  • professional/technical employees who are moving into leadership roles, and
  • those who have many years of practical leadership experience that they wish to augment with some current theories in management.

Approximately 25 days, usually two or three days at a time, will be spent in interactive workshops with external and internal facilitators.

In addition, you will be asked to spend some time outside of the classroom in doing pre-reading or working on your learning plan.
