Over the past several years, the Staff Development Branch of the Public Service Commission successfully designed and delivered the Supervisory Success Program (SSP) to prepare and train supervisors within Yukon Government. This training was held in Whitehorse and for the most part, participants were based in the capital city with a limited number from Yukon communities.
Due to the success of this initiative, there was interest in holding similar type training in the communities in the winter of 2008. Several departments indicated a desire to create an opportunity for supervisory training with their staff in the communities.
In the fall of 2006, an initial assessment was conducted to investigate the opportunity to develop a community Supervisory Success Program.
Interviews were conducted with three types of individuals for ideas about a community SSP:
Information from these interviews was used to develop the initial design for this community based SSP program.
While this new program will follow a similar course of study similar to the existing Supervisory Success Program, the focus will be on the unique challenges of leading from Yukon communities.
To distinguish the program and it’s unique community focus, it will be called Leading + Learning in Yukon Communities.
