Benefit Plans: General Information
Yukon government provides an extensive benefits plan to eligible employees of the Government of Yukon, Members of the Legislative Assembly, for persons employed under the Cabinet and Caucus Employees Act and for former employees receiving pension benefits.
Who and what does the plan include?
The benefit plan, generally available to all employee groups, includes:
- Dental plan
- Extended Health Care plan
- Long Term Disability Insurance
- Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP) Supplementary Death Benefit
Retirees are eligible for the Extended Health Care plan only.
Additional benefits which are applicable to some groups include:
- Basic Life Insurance
- Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
- Dependent Life/Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
- optional life insurance.
What governs the group insurance benefit plans?
The group insurance benefit plans, with the exception of the Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP) Supplementary Death Benefit, are governed by the Public Service Group Insurance Benefit Plan (PSGIBP) Act [80 KB
]. The PSSP Supplementary Death Benefit is tied to participation in the pension plan and falls under the responsibility of the Federal government.
Who manages the group insurance benefits?
The group insurance benefits under the PSGIBP Act are managed by a Joint Management Committee (JMC), who report to the Minister of Finance. The JMC is made up of representatives from four employee groups (Yukon Employees' Union, Yukon Teachers' Association, Confidential employees, Management employees) and three representatives from the employer (Department of Finance and the Public Service Commission).
What company are the group insurance plans insured with?
The group insurance plans, with the exception of the Supplementary Death Benefit, are insured with Sun Life Financial of Canada. Sun Life’s Member Services 
provides information on extended health and dental claims, when your next vision expense is eligible and when you are eligible for your next dental recall exam. You can also update your direct deposit information.
