Yukon Government Employment Categories and Pay Schedules


Following is a brief summary of the employment categories in the Yukon government public service, several of which are governed by their own terms and conditions, to help you determine which link above is most appropriate for your inquiry. These take you to the employment group and descriptions of the terms and conditions of employment (leaves, benefits, salary provisions).

Yukon Employees' Union (YEU) Employees

Terms and conditions of employment are governed by the YG/PSAC Collective Agreement  [799.16 KB] with the Public Service Alliance of Canada, and represented by the Yukon Employees' Union .  Auxiliary employees are also represented by the YEU and covered by this collective agreement.

Yukon Teachers' Association (YTA) Employees

Terms and conditions of employment are governed by the YTA Collective Agreement  [217.07 KB] and represented by the Yukon Teachers' Association

Confidential Employees

Employees excluded from the bargaining unit by reason of confidential duties are governed by the General Administration Manual (GAM) Policy 3.8, Confidential and Managerial Employees [21 KB].  By and large confidential employees have the same terms and conditions of employment as YEU members, excluding those conditions which deal with union membership.

Management Employees

Employees excluded from the bargaining unit by reason of managerial duties are governed by the GAM Policy 38, Confidential and Managerial Employees [21 KB] and Section M [215 KB], conditions of employment for managers, legal officers and deputy ministers.

Casual Employees

Casual employees are used in ad hoc situations to provide additional assistance for periods of no more than six months.  Casual employees are governed by the GAM Policy 3.7, Casual Personnel Recruitment, Terms and Conditions, and Benefits [58 KB].

Contract Employees     

Contract employees are used in ad hoc situations when the work requirements are in excess of six months duration, where the work is of a contractual nature which includes an employer-employee relationship, and the employee works a minimum of thirty hours per week.  Contract employees are governed by the GAM Policy 3.41, Contract Employees Terms and Conditions of Employment [23 KB].

Emergency Fire Fighters   

Emergency fire fighters are engaged for the specific purpose of providing additional support for emergency fire suppression. Emergency fire fighters are governed by the GAM Policy 3.58, Emergency Fire Fighters Terms and Conditions [29 KB].
