Disability Services

The WDEO offers a variety of programs and supports for job seekers with disabilities. The goal of the WDEO is – "To facilitate the successful hiring and retention of employees with disabilities, by providing information and support to job seekers, to the employer, to supervisors, and to co-workers."

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

The Hiring Process – We offer informal discussions with individuals and groups about how the hiring process works within YTG. We explain "preferential hires", "direct appointments" and other hiring methods as well as help you access other hiring-related resources within YTG.

Interview Training – We provide job seekers with practical tips and first-hand experience with the YTG interview process.

Computer Training – For those who need to improve their computer skills, we offer customized, intermediate level upgrading classes for MS Word, Excel, Access, etc. These courses are offered on an "as-needed" basis.

Support Group – We recognize that getting into “the system” is not the only obstacle faced by job seekers with disabilities. Sometimes, new employees need follow-up support in: adapting to the corporate culture, resolving accommodation needs, helping others to accept the new employee’s reality, and other stress-causing circumstances. Early in 2005, we will be introducing a “Support Group for Employees with Disabilities” to help meet these needs.

Accommodation Solutions – The WDEO has a central pool of funds to assist those job seekers with
disabilities who require various accommodations. These can include physical items or supports such as: electronics, job coaches, communication equipment, etc. We also provide expertise and support to employees, supervisors and Departments in their development of ongoing, process related accommodation solutions.

Funding Supports – The WDEO has funds available to assist with wage costs associated with on-the-job training positions and, in some cases, for the initial period of employment for successful candidates with disabilities.

Résumé Database – The WDEO maintains an up-to-date inventory of résumés submitted to us by job seekers with disabilities. We provide this pre-screened information to YTG Departments upon request.
