What's so important about retirement planning? For years, people have been retiring and living quite comfortably on their pensions. Why do we need to be concerned about planning for the future all of a sudden?

In short, the environment has changed. We're living longer and need more money to cover expenses for a longer period of time. Many of us are retiring earlier to be able to enjoy a more balanced lifestyle. People have different expectations about retirement - it's no longer just sitting in the rocking chair on the front porch and visiting with the grandkids.
